Found out why my garage door didn’t want to move anymore. Craftsman / Chamberlain made in 3/1999. Lasted a good while as I pretty much use the garage door as much as the front door.
Found a replacement shaft for $18, but the garage door signal board is giving out too. Nothing lasts forever :)

That bears an uncanny resemblance to what happened to my Chamberlain last year in spite of it being a 1980s unit. Thankfully, I had another opener that I had installed then removed from my previous house (well, rental) from a few years ago at the ready to quickly toss up in its place.

Yes, everything is essentially “for life.” Sorry if its lifetime isn’t anywhere close to your lifetime.

I don’t know how long the rubber bands last, but my house came with one of those rubber band openers and I think they’re pretty awesome. They’re practically silent, fast, and seem easier to work with than the old ones. 10/10, would get one if I needed to replace an old chain one.

Looks like it’s served it’s purpose. Sacrificial plastic part. In lieu of trashing the electric motor or some other part that would be tougher to replace. And it sounds like you can replace it for under $20. Not too bad.

Yep. they do that.
Replaced the gears on ours a few years ago - best $20 ever spent.

Ohhhh Mine is to new to swap and not old enough to break but if it did I’d be all about the new wifi ones. %90 of the times I leave my house I question if I left the door open or closed often leading in a trip around the block to check! :)

I was just looking as some. Everything has wifi now, even water heaters :P
I do that to, wonder if I closed the garage and drive back to check.

I just changed mine out. Didn’t take more than 30 minutes or so. i used youtube for help. The circuit boards aren’t too expensive either and that’s an easier fix.
